SUMMARY:39th Annual Keewaywin Conference
DESCRIPTION:Watch Live here \n\n\n\n\nLIVE BROADCAST\n\n\n\n\nThe NAN 39th Annual Keewaywin Conference will take place virtually August 10\, 11 & 12\, 2021. The election of the Grand Chief (1) and Deputy Grand Chief (3) will take place during this virtual gathering\, on August 11\, 2021.   \n\n\n\nRegistration Deadline to be eligible to vote is 5 p.m. EST on August 10\, 2021\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW!\n\n\n\nELECTION WEBSITE\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDaily sign-in during the conference will take place each morning to track quorum. Sign in on day 2 closes at 10:30 a.m. EST \n\n\n\nProxy Letters must be received by 5 p.m. EST on August 10\, 2021 to be eligible to vote \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNAN Election 2021 Voting Platform\n\n\n\nSimply Voting will be the platform used by NAN to conduct online and telephone voting.   This simple and secure platform can be accessed on any internet connected computer\, tablet\, smart phone and telephone. \n\n\n\nPrior to election day registered Chiefs and Proxies will receive an email that will include a voting ID and password.  Another email with a link to the ballot (and the same pin code) will be sent when voting begins on August 11\, 2021. Please watch for your voter ID and password to arrive\, check your junk email and keep it in a safe space for easy access on election day. \n\n\n\nIf you do not have access to the internet during voting\, you may use a telephone to cast your vote and will need to enter your pin code to vote. Voters call a dedicated toll-free number and are prompted to authenticate their identity.  \n\n\n\nThe voters enter their credentials using a touch-tone dial pad and the system checks whether they have yet voted. If that is the case\, the voter is prompted to select from the options of each candidate\, one question at a time\, and finally to confirm their choices. \n\n\n\nYou will be able to check if your ballot was received either by online or phone by going to the Simply Voting website and entering your voter ID & password. \n\n\n\nImportant: If your internet connection does not support virtual meetings\, we ask that you register for the phone only option and that you provide your email address and telephone number that you will be calling from.  NAN staff will be contacting you soon to provide support and answer any questions on how to connect. \n\n\n\nPROXIES\n\n\n\nIf you are unable to attend\, a proxy may be sent. Proxy notice must be sent in advance on letterhead and signed by the Chief and Council or a quorum of the Council. This letter will ensure that the proxy has full conference privileges to act on your behalf. A sample proxy letter is attached. \n\n\n\nPlease send proxy letters to the attention of Narene Barkman via email nbarkman@nan.ca. \n\n\n\nELECTION\n\n\n\nThe Chief Electoral Officer will oversee all aspects of the election process and will deal with any and all issues during the campaign period and election process.  Contact information for the Chief Electoral Officer can be found on the website www.nanelection.ca \n\n\n\nRESOLUTIONS-DEADLINE: FRIDAY\, JULY 9\, 2021\n\n\n\nResolutions to be considered for the virtual assembly must be forwarded electronically\, in advance\, to Luke Hunter at lhunter@nan.ca. \n\n\n\nCONFERENCE MATERIALS\n\n\n\nThe 2020/2021 NAN Annual Report and Audited Financial Statements will be distributed via mail before the conference.  Electronic copies will also be made available. \n\n\n\nIf you require any additional information or require clarification\, please contact Charlene Yerxa cyerxa@nan.ca or Wendy Caruk wcaruk@nan.ca at (807) 623-8228 or NAN Toll Free 1-800-465-9952 \n\n\n\nPlease Note: The annual Keewaywin Awards are a celebration of the accomplishments of the people of Nishnawbe Aski Nation\, traditionally shared in person with Leadership\, family and friends during our annual summer gathering. Unfortunately\, this year’s Keewaywin Conference must be held in a virtual environment to ensure the safety of our members and communities. We are therefore postponing the 2021 Keewaywin Awards until we can once again safely gather to honour our award recipients and celebrate their accomplishments together as a Nation. \n\n\n\nCONTACTS\n\n\n\nElection Support & InformationJocelyn Formsma\, Head Electoral Officernanelections2021@outlook.comPhone: 613.864.7033General InquiriesCharlene Yerxacyerxa@nan.caPhone: 807.625.4914Wendy Carukwcaruk@nan.caPhone: 807.625.4933Registration SupportNarene Barkmannbarkman@nan.caPhone: 807.357.5331Lorie Van Buskirklvanbuskirk@nan.caPhone: 807.707.3659Media InquiriesMichael Heintzman\, Director of Communicationsmheintzman@nan.caPhone: 807.621.2790Tech Support during the assemblyChris Ficek.
