SUMMARY:NAN Best Practices in Education 2022
DESCRIPTION:Now more than ever\, students need a strong support system of educators who prioritize not only mental health and wellness but strive to provide a safe and supportive school environment. Through these support systems both students and educators can gain confidence and stay motivated in these uncertain times. It is in the face of uncertainty where we begin to discover what we are truly capable of. \n\n\n\nNishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Best Practices in Education 2022 is a forum where educators and policy makers can connect and share knowledge and experiences with one another. This year’s theme is Embracing Growth in Times of Change. Our focus is on how we can adapt to ever-changing circumstances and prioritize mental health and wellness. Like the caterpillar breaks out of its cocoon to become a butterfly\, we are all embracing our growth to leave these times of unpredictability as more inspired\, confident\, and capable educators. \n\n\n\n\nLaunch Virtual Event\n\n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: Only registered Attendees and Speakers will have access to the virtual event space. SUMMARY:NAN Housing Supply Challenge Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Register here!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nJoin us for an information session on Zoom to learn more about NAN’s Housing Supply Challenge Project: Community-Led Designs for Specialized Housing in the North! \n\n\n\nNAN has applied to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC)’s National Housing Strategy – Housing Supply Challenge to focus on the critical\, pre-construction components of engagement\, design\, procurement and implementation planning of housing in NAN First Nations for greatest needs populations: single adults\, those in need of housing with supports and those in need of emergency housing. This application builds on the work of the NAN Housing Strategy mandated by Chiefs-in-Assembly in Resolution 18/18. \n\n\n\nNAN’s project has been successful in being shortlisted for Round Two and we are currently working on a final application to be submitted on June 15\, 2022. Your participation in this information session will allow you to learn more about the project and how you can get more involved! \n\n\n\nThis project recognizes the challenges that First Nations face in developing alternative housing models specific to the region’s diverse cultures\, climates and geographies. Continuing our partnership with Together Design Lab\, this application to the CMHC Housing Supply Challenge will assemble a team of frontline community workers\, subject experts\, housing professionals and individuals with lived experience to produce ready-to-implement housing plans specifically tailored to NAN’s greatest need populations. \n\n\n\nThe professional and/or lived experience of frontline workers in NAN First Nation communities (such as those supporting housing needs in child welfare\, Elder’s homecare\, family well-being\, and other various capacities\, etc) will be integral to this process of designing appropriate housing for these greatest needs populations. As such\, we are inviting NAN community members with this experience to learn more how you can participate in this project through a co-design process that looks to produce ready-to-build housing plans. \n\n\n\nFor questions about this session\, please contact Ashley Atatise\, Project Coordinator at aatatise@nan.ca

SUMMARY:Continuity of Care Forum
DESCRIPTION:Launch Virtual Event!\n\n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: Only registered Attendees and Speakers will have access to the virtual event space. If you log in for the first time\, you will be asked to create a password. Internet Explorer is not supported. We recommend using Google Chrome when possible. \n\n\n\nThe Seven Youth Inquest began from the tragic loss of seven of our youth who had to leave their communities to continue their education. As a result of the Inquest\, 145 recommendations on safety\, support\, timely funding\, programs\, and policies were given to government\, Tribal Councils\, and partners. By understanding the history of what happened\, the present work and implementation of the recommendations\, and the future journey for our youth\, we can all work together to prevent further tragedies. \n\n\n\nThe Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Continuity of Care Forum will share the past\, present\, and future of the Seven Youth Inquest. This year’s theme The CAREfull Journey Ahead focuses on how we move forward to create a path full of care for our youth. This continuous journey requires us to maintain the Continuity of Care for youth travelling out of their communities for their education. All those interested in this continuity for our youth are welcome. \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here!\n\n\n\n\n\nDownload Poster
