Secret Path Learning Resource
Explore Secret Path: A New Classroom Resource
Learning Chanie Wenjack’s story can open the door to important conversations, reflection, and a deeper understanding of our shared history.
“Learning about Indian Residential Schools means understanding their lasting impacts on Survivors, families, and communities, while honouring their strength and resilience. Through Chanie’s story, students are encouraged to listen with compassion, respect Survivors’ voices, and consider their own role in supporting truth, healing and reconciliation.”
Ten years ago, the NAN Education Department, Marten Falls First Nation, the Ontario Ministry of Education, and educators from across NAN territory came together to create a classroom resource inspired by Secret Path. As Secret Path marks its 10th anniversary, we are proud to share it publicly for the first time and are seeking feedback to help us strengthen it for the communities and classrooms we serve.
The resource includes engaging activities for Grades 6, 7, 8, and 10, aligned with Ontario Curriculum expectations in Social Studies, History, The Arts, and Language/English.

The resource is available here and on the Downie Wenjack Fund HUB for registered Legacy Schools.
