Education Jurisdiction Summit 2025
July 22, 2025 @ 12:00 pm – July 23, 2025 @ 9:00 pm

Calling all NAN Leadership
Join us for the Education Jurisdiction Summit 2025: Best Practices for Reclaiming Jurisdiction
ποΈ July 23β24, 2025
π Delta Hotels, Thunder Bay (2240 Sleeping Giant Parkway)
Nishnawbe Aski Nation is in the process of negotiating an Education Jurisdiction Agreement with the Government of Canada on behalf of the 39 First Nation communities participating. This agreement would see education moving from the Indian Act into a new structure. Including the creation of a new organization that will ultimately, negotiate, distribute education funding. Moving to a new structure is a change, and change can be a risk.
This yearsβ Education Jurisdiction Summit we are happy to host Long Lake #58 First Nation, as both a member of NAN and the Anishinabek Education Agreement, to share their experience moving into a new and untested First Nation created education structure. As well as beginning the conversation around the fiscal negotiations.
Who should attend?
NAN will be covering hotel and travel costs for 2 members of each First Nation and Tribal Council. Priority will be given to Chief, council member, portfolio holder for education, and/or education director or board of education members to attend the conference. If you do not meet the criteria, your registration may not be accepted. A streaming option will also be available.
Priority will be given to Chiefs and education portfolio holders. All others will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis unless your community advises otherwise.
